Sketch Series #1: April 25

10am is not as bright as usual today. Light is on warmer side, but does not evenly light the room.
Would probably need to use artificial lighting in addition to this daylighting to adequately perform tasks.
2pm light is much brighter and more evenly lights up the space. At this time I could perform tasks without the use of any artificial light. Lighting quality is again on the warmer side of the spectrum .
7pm light is still warm, but much less bright. I would definitely need to implement artificial lighting at this time.

Sketch Series #5: Color Exercise

TRIAD color scheme
MONOCHROMATIC color scheme...and shows Contrast of Saturation
shows Contrast of Hues and COMPLIMENTARY color scheme
Shows Contrast of Hue and Contrast of Value and COMPLIMENTARY color scheme
ANALOGOUS color scheme

Sketch Series #1: April 11

10am this light looks neutrally white and bright. The suns rays coming through the window are distinct, which creates a nice ambiance within the space.
2pm the lighting is much brighter and a little on the warmer side. The distinction between light and shadow is extremely clear now. Again, this would be an excellent lighting condition for the work tasks that go on within this space.
7pm the light is apparent, but much darker. The area of light is rather small, existing right around the window only. At this point it would be difficult to perform necessary tasks without some form of artificial lighting.

Sketch Series #1: March 28th

10am my kitchen looks rather neutral, but still has a nice bright feeling. It is apparent even only looking at the lighting quality that it is getting warmer outside. Tasks performed in this space can now be done easily without the use of artificial light.

2pm the lighting quality is even brighter and the distinction between light and shadow are even more contrasting. This seems to be the prime time of day to be working in this space (when regarding the lighting quality).
7pm the light is much cooler, not as bright. However, this is a huge difference from the 7pm lighting quality back in January! It is clear that it is becoming Spring and that Daylight savings has begun. By looking at the quality of light I can see that the days are becoming much longer.

sketch series #4: solid state LEDs

a- purpose of space= hotel lobby
b- purpose of lighting= accent/sparkle
c- lamp= solid state colored LEDs
d-luminaire= cove lighting resembling a skylight with wooden beams
e- effect of light in space- this lighting creates a nice glow throughout the space but because the main colors of the LED are blue and violet it doesn't create a lot of bright light.
f- effect of light on materials: these lights give some materials a blueish color almost like a black light. However, these are many other types of lighting within the same space so the materials aren't greatly affected by LEDs.
g- I don't feel this light illuminates the space very well. However, I don't thinkthat is the purpose of these lights. These look like focal lighting to accent the woodwork within the ceiling as well as sparkle lighting to give something aesthetically pleasing for the occupants. Therefore, for its purpose I feel the illumination level is adequate.
h- I wouldn't make any recommendations for this lighting except that it only should be used at night, otherwise its effects would go unnoticed.

sketch series #4: electrodeless

a- purpose of space: street (street light)
b- purpose of lighting: task (accent)
c- lamp: electrodeless (induction lamp)
d- luminaire= metal, very industrial looking shade (opaque)
e- effect of light source= lights up streets for drivers at night as well as sidewalks.
f- effect on materials= this light is cool, but not too much, so seems neutral (as opposed to blue or yellow). The light therefore reveals the truest color and texture to surrounding materials.
g- this illumination is perfectly adequate for its purpose.
h- there is nothing I would change about this lighting instillation.

sketch series #4- HID

a- purpose of space: studio lobby space.
b-purpose of lighting: ambient lighting
c- lamp: HID lamps
d- luminaire= ceiling pendant lights with glass shade to allow for the passage of light.
e- effect of light source: BRIGHT ambient lighting for those transitioning through the space.
f- effect on materials= these lights are very "cool" and almost have a blueish tint to them. This gives the space a harsh bright feeling and reflects heavily in most of the surfaces.
g- I feel that the illumination level is more than adequate for the purpose of the space.
h- I would recommend decreasing the brightness of these lights in order to decrease reflectivity within other surfaces and glare.
